A Development Steeped in History
We have recently commenced work on the conversion of the Wyatt’s Close Almshouses in the historic market town of Godalming. A development steeped in charm and history, of which the Almshouses form a grade I listed building and are of exceptional historic interest.
As a gift to those less fortunate, the erection of the Almshouses was a bequest of Richard Wyatt, thrice Master of the Carpenters’ Company and local landowner, upon his death in 1619. Following three years of construction, the building was completed which comprised of ten, two storey Almshouses, with a central chapel for ten almsmen. The property was later extended, to offer more space and even later was converted to flats for almsmen and women.
The historic fabric of the original building still survives, showcasing orange-red brick in English bond, triple-arched windows, and each home boasting a chamfered brick opening.
We are now converting the Grade I listed Almshouses into six one-bedroom apartments and the chapel into a two-bedroom house, along with six new one-bedroom bungalows within the grounds. It is our aim to give the development care and attention so we can bring distinctive homes to this historic development for generations to come.
The properties will be converted to a high specification and the homes will benefit from quality fitted kitchens, living/dining areas and each will have its own allocated parking. Handpicked brands and appliances from suppliers we trust will be fitted throughout, to give the new Wyatt’s Close residents confidence from the inside out.
The Almhouses are located on the north-east outskirts of Godalming, in south-west Surrey. Godalming itself runs along the banks of the River Wey and has some of the finest countryside in Southern England. Midway between London and the south coast, Godalming is the perfect location for commuters and families.
