Happy 40th Birthday Arcadia Construction!

As we celebrate Arcadia Construction’s 40th birthday, it feels like the right moment to look back at the man who started it all!

Peter began his career at 18 with DC Howes in Cove as a general labourer. With no formal qualifications, he developed skills such as bricklaying and scaffolding the traditional way, through observation, hard work and the guidance of his elders around him.

With those foundations in place, the next step in Peter’s journey arrived almost by chance. Arcadia’s origins can be traced to a commission with Michael and Chris Craig. What began as one extension project quickly grew into a partnership and, eventually, a business that moved from a single site to a full and varied workload. As the company expanded, so did its reputation for thoughtful construction and a steady, reliable approach.

Many developments remain memorable for Peter. The early project near Fleet station marked an important step forward. The conversion of a former school on Castle Street in Farnham called for a sensitive touch. Avon Run Close in Mudeford brought unusual technical challenges but delivered a result the team was proud of. Wyatts Almshouses in Godalming stands out for its character and complexity, with a Grade I listed building and chapel transformed with care for its history.

Over forty years, the challenges have been broad and ever-changing. Peter often reflects that building was easier in the early days, yet his focus on doing things properly has remained unchanged. After 40 years at Arcadia, Peter now endeavours to pass on his knowledge to the rest of his team.

As Arcadia Construction marks this milestone, it celebrates a legacy shaped by experience and a commitment to building with care.

We want to take this moment to thank Peter for being an exceptional partner, teammate and leader throughout Arcadia’s forty years. His steady guidance and commitment have shaped the company we know today, and we look forward to many more years of working alongside him. Here’s to the future and everything still to come.
